The complete overhaul of a two-storey terrace house in Double Bay is not without its challenges for a design team – which, to my way of thinking, brings out their best! To counter the long, dark space configuration of classic Victorian housing, the new layout revolves around a large, central kitchen and dining area that benefit from a void over the space. A double-height steel screen frames the staircase leading up the existing northern wall. Large clerestory windows facing north and south bring it all together – spanning to the height of the building to flood the upper and lower levels with air and light. Can’t wait to see this completed at the end of this year!
