Bespoke experiences are something we talk about a lot at Tobias Partners. Our interest in the tailored aspect of projects from the way concepts are developed through to the individuality it ultimately brings to the end product is one of the central tenants of our design philosophy.

So it was a great honour to be invited to become an Ambassador for Louis Vuitton’s new “made-to-order” shoe and belt service – an inspired addition to their physical retail experience and part of their significant commitment to the Australian market at their new George St store.

The process is exceptional, commencing with a personal fitting and material selections for virtually every part of the shoe in a private section of the store. Working through the variety of options with the guidance of a consultant, the shoe virtually comes to life on LV’s ipad app and presto – the order is sent to the workshop in Italy …

Finally a feeling of resolution for this most picturesque of blank canvases!

It can be a complex process designing for a site as unconstrained and abundant with opportunities as this. Every possibility opens up a path to yet another, and it’s no easy task taking the first step when every new idea is as exciting and as pertinent as the last. That said, the design arrived with resounding certainty – the planning is strong and logical, offering an elegant sequence of events as one moves through the building. The spaces manage to embrace the best of the surrounding views without being dominated by them, and there are strong regional influences in the architectural detail and materials used. We’re very much looking forward to construction… and of course the site meetings!
